Walsall 0 – 1 Leicester

Leicester City booked their place in the FA Cup fifth round after overcoming League Two Walsall 1-0 at the Bescot Stadium.

Leicester have now only lost one of their 10 FA Cup ties against a team from the fourth tier of English football – but that defeat was against Newport County in 2018/19, who were then managed by current Walsall boss Michael Flynn.

Flynn watched his team produce a valiant display to frustrate Leicester, who were denied the opener moments after the restart when Youri Tielemans’ penalty struck the post after Isaac Hutchinson fouled Patson Daka inside the box.

But the 2021 winners would not be denied their spot in round five as FA Cup specialist Kelechi Iheanacho – with 17 goals in 23 appearances in the competition – saw his turn and shot deflect off the unfortunate Brandon Comley for the winning goal after 68 minutes.

What’s next?

Walsall return to League Two action on Tuesday with a trip to Salford – kick-off 7.45pm – before they take on Northampton at Sixfields on Saturday; kick-off 3pm.

Leicester’s next game is in the Premier League, with a trip to Aston Villa on Saturday; kick-off 3pm.

Brendan Rodgers’ side then host Tottenham on Saturday February 11; kick-off 3pm.
