Championship leader Charles Leclerc will start on pole position for the inaugural Miami Grand Prix after leading a Ferrari one-two in a fiercely-fought qualifying.

Max Verstappen had led heading into the tense final laps around the fast street track that surrounds Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium, but the Ferraris of Leclerc and Carlos Sainz leapfrogged the Red Bull.

Verstappen couldn’t retaliate on his final lap as, pushing for time, the world champion made a critical error through the first sector.

Leclerc topped the session by two-tenths from Sainz and Verstappen, taking his third pole in five 2022 races.
