The dreaded Kitchener Stitch (grafting the toe of a sock) http://www.movingtoandalusia.com/2008/10/the-dr... There are other ways to graft the toe, I simply picked the most popular one, but Wikipedia will lead you to other methods, such as the wale-to-wale seam.
I simply used a dpn and my fingers, it works, but the result is a bit shabby. I also used my fingers and a dpn to tidy away the last bits of my working yarn into the sock. This too will probably look much better if you use a tapestry needle.

Grafting the toe the easy way: My Mum's Stitch http://www.movingtoandalusia.com/2008/11/grafti... I've tried the Kitchener Stitch. It's ok, but to be honest, I thought it was a bit messy. If you don't have any equipment such as tapestry needles and/or no patience and/or no talent, this might work for you: My Mum's Stitch! My mum learned this in school as a tiny girl with lovely blond curls, knitting under the beady eye of her horrible teacher. Teach did a good job though, because my mum can still remember! Here's what you do: make sure you have decreased the toe as far as you want and you're ready to start grafting.
